The Student Windsurfing Association

You might not be aware, but just over a week ago something pretty impressive took place. For the fourteenth year, Bude Holiday Resort and Roadford Lake were hosts to the biggest Student Windsurfing festival in the world: Aussie Kiss.

The event is run by the Student Windsurfing Association (SWA) and has been a mainstay for the student windsurfing community since 2001. Since then, the event has changed location and format a little; but the general theme has been maintained: get as many students windsurfing in one place over one weekend as physically possible.

This time nearly 500 students took over the caravan park, tearing up the dancefloor and dominating the lake. It was once again fantastic to see so many people (both new and returning members) enjoying everything that Aussie Kiss had to offer.

This year the event was blessed with a previously unrivalled audio entourage, provided by the one and only Red Bull and Concert Solutions. Think laser lights, smoke machines, a Funktion One sound system and DJs who had previously played for Radio One! Alex ‘Cuzo’ Mancuso of Duplex Sound headlined, supported by Sam Watson and Saxadan (aka Dan Connor from Patrik Diethelm).

For the first time ever the SWA is going to hit you with 2 events at once! One in the south and one in the north! Which will you choose?????

Tickets for both will be released next week!

Birmingham University’s debut core SWA event is here. The theme is “In the beginning”, so think dinosaurs, cavemen, Adam and Eve or any old style fantasy.

The 2 days will be spent at Chasewater Sailing club, famous for its beaches. So forget the dirty squelchy mud of AK oozing between your innocent toes and replace it with heavenly soft(ish), exfoliating sand.

Premium accommodation will be provided in Selly Oak, a mere 40 min sleep (for most of you) from the lake. (Chocolates on pillows not guaranteed).

Being a standard SWA event, expect beginner lessons, racing for all levels, a freestyle competition and team racing showdown. Prizes and points for the SWA series will of course be up for grabs as well as a stash of SWA merchandise you can get your now beautifully soft, callus free hands on (the sand, remember).

To ready you for the windsurf action, expect to crawl home from a big welcome to Brum night in Selly Oak on the Friday. Just in case you don’t end yourself trying to do a frontloop on the lake, we’ll be getting mortal on Broad Street on the Saturday, but don’t worry that’s not part of the actual insurance policy!

This will without doubt* be the waviest weekend of lake sailing you have ever experienced.

For those of you undazzled by the “bright lights” of Birmingham, the city of Plymouth on the shining Southern coast invites you for a weekend jam packed full of salty goodness, sea air, shanter (S*** Banter) and looseness!

There’s something for everyone with Wave freestyle for those keen riders of the wind and beginner sessions for those whose journeys have just begun. Not only that, but you will have the opportunity to sample Plymouth’s thriving and uniquely charming night life on very special nights on the town.

Of course, in true SWA fashion, our second evening will bring on that jungle fever as we all dress up as animals before shredding the scene in Fresher and Professor! Come one, come all, just don’t miss out!

Yes! Aussie Kiss 2015 is coming!

Details and tickets will be released soon!

Ladies and gentlemen of the SWA, Aussie Kiss is upon us once again

In its fourteenth year the event will tip its hat (and glass) to both the sailors of old and windsurfers of not so old as we bring you...

That’s right, people will literally fly in from around the globe, drive until red bull can keep them awake no more, and sell all their worldly belongings (we may exaggerate a little) just to be part of the phenomenon that is Aussie Kiss 14 – The Age of Discovery: SWA Rules the Waves

Whether you are returning to university following a well-earned summer break, new to the scene and wondering what you are going to do with your Freshman year; or a graduate who just simply cannot let go of university life!....The SWA has one hell of a year in store for you!
In time-honored tradition, we will be starting the SWA year off in style with the worlds biggest event of its kind...Aussie Kiss! Now in its fourteenth year, the event is once again kicking off in Bude Holiday Resort by night and at Roadford Lake by day. The aim of the event is to get more student windsurfers on the water than anywhere the world! There will beginner tuition, racing, live music, parties and two nights accommodation. Whether you have been to Aussie Kiss before or not...this is one weekend you won't want to miss!
Once Aussie Kiss has worked its magic and got you begging for more...we kick off the SWA series with 6 events hosted by student windsurf clubs from universities all over the country. With ticket prices sometimes as low as £10 for two nights accommodation, two parties, two days windsurfing and breakfast...we really put the 'student' in Student Windsurfing Association! The series includes 3 Wave events (coastal) and 3 Core events (inland lakes) and we offer prizes for podium positions at each event as well as for the overall series winners at the end of the year...
Which leads nicely on to the final event of the year: SWA BUCS National Championships! That's right, we have a BUCS event too! Hosted at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (that's the one where they held the Olympic sailing events!), we encourage all student windsurfers of every ability to compete for real-live BUCS points!
And believe us when we say that in the SWA, points really do mean prizes! With an amazing array of industry sponsors, the SWA regularly provides winners of the annual series with prizes such as brand new boards, sails, wetsuits, holidays, professional RYA courses and sports apparel. Last year, the SWA gave away more £20,000 worth of prizes to podium winners!
So like the SWA Facebook Page, bookmark the SWA website, go to your university's Freshers' Fair, join a Windsurf Club and come and play with the SWA!
